The Summerjam Lion is currently being finalised. The date for the start of the auction at United Charity will be announced shortly. The auction will last one month.
For the graffiti artist Sponk it’s a highlight every year to paint a giant lion in the middle of the Summerjam Festival. I’ve been spraying an imposing lion live on a 185 x 185 cm canvas in front of 30,000 festival visitors since 2016. This special project aims to do good in the world. In Germany, we have the privilege of going to school, seizing opportunities in life and not having to worry about clean water or food. Unfortunately, the reality in other parts of the world is often different. As a creative and compassionate person, I feel called to use my artistic energy to make the world a little better. The proceeds of the project will go to Help Jamaica and Viva con Agua. The lions will be auctioned off on the United Charity platform after the festival. I have already been able to donate a total of €30,000.
The charity art project is officially sponsored by Mankeplast.
Every year I face the exciting challenge of giving the Summerjam Festival emblem, the lion, an individual and unique character to inspire my audience. So far, six lions have been created, each with its own special style. The first was a ‘space lion’, for the next three works I created impressive lion artworks together with another artist. For the fifth lion, I was able to demonstrate my skills in photorealistic painting. Last year’s lion was particularly outstanding as I used a style I had developed myself. The lion was ‘graffitised’ – a style I have developed over the last 20 years for the abstraction of letters, now applied to nature motifs. With cubic abstraction, bold contours and splashes of colour, the result is a lion like no other in the world! ‘It will be a challenge to surpass this masterpiece, but I love and live the challenge!’ This year there will be a special highlight: The Summerjam Lion No.6 will also be presented at my performance and there will be a competition to win 35 T-shirts with the motif of SJL No.6. More information will be available at my performance. I’m looking forward to seeing you all again at the festival!
