Vivid Liquids

In the process of creating his artworks, Sponk repeatedly looked at the colour particles reacting with each other and was captivated by them. The complex colour patterns began to develop a life of their own (hence the term ‘vivid liquids’). Sponk’s spirit of research was awakened and he designed an apparatus to capture this play of colours. He built a machine that was named after the natural scientist Ernst Haeckel. The artist wanted to present to a wider audience the worlds of colour that were visible before the drying process and which are actually reserved for the artist alone. His ‘Ernst Haeckel Machine’ has thus stopped time and captured extraordinary snapshots.
