Graffiti artist Sponk has not only captured the hearts of viewers with his impressive work ‘Lion King’, but has also made an important contribution to charitable projects. The artwork was auctioned off for an impressive €6,500, with all proceeds going to two important initiatives:
The successful auction was generously supported by Mankeplast. The company is a leader in the field of innovative plastic injection moulding solutions and is known for its sustainable manufacturing processes. Mankeplast supports companies in the realisation of technical innovations and is a strong partner in the industry.
The ‘Lion King’ was created live at a festival, right in front of thousands of spectators, and was later perfected in Sponk’s studio.
The work depicts a mighty lion with a history: he has had to assert his status several times. His eyes reflect strength, determination and experience. The scars on his face tell of the battles he has gone through to earn his crown.
Sponk used a unique masking technique that allows him to perfectly combine his crystalline, abstract graffiti style with nature motifs. Light and shadow were masterfully realised, giving the ‘Lion King’ an impressive three-dimensional effect. The painting was created in spectacular dimensions and is one of the highlights in Sponk’s catalogue raisonné.
A particular highlight of the festival was Sponk’s speech in front of over 30,000 people on the main stage. Here he spoke about art, inspiration and the importance of creativity, which not only connects people but also brings about positive change.
This Summerjm festival is an event of superlatives – full of creativity, thrills and inspiration. In addition to impressive live art, it offered music, good weather and an unforgettable sense of community.
Sponk is a visionary of the urban art scene. His works range from small canvases to huge murals. His largest work currently covers 500 m² and will grow to 800 m² by the end of 2025. By continuously experimenting with new, self-developed techniques and styles, he remains a pioneer in graffiti art.
The auction of the ‘Lion King’ is another example of how art can build bridges and bring about positive change. Thanks to the generous support of Mankeplast, the Viva con Agua platform and Help Jamaica!, projects that help people all over the world have been supported.
