Butterfly in the dawn – Support for the WWF

The Gelsenkirchen graffiti artist Sponk has become internationally recognised for his extraordinary works of art. His works have been shown in many renowned exhibitions, including in Beijing and Chongqing, and even the prestigious British art magazine ‘Aesthetica’ has already reported on his art. Now Sponk has decided to donate one of his works to a good cause: his impressive graffiti ‘Butterfly in the Dawn’, which symbolises change, beauty and freedom.

The artwork was put up for auction on the United Charity internet platform. The painting, measuring 100×140 cm, was sprayed onto MDF wood and has a hanging option on the back. The auction offered interested parties the opportunity to bid on this unique work of art. The proceeds of the auction were forwarded directly to the World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF) without deduction of costs.

The WWF is one of the largest and most experienced nature conservation organisations in the world and carries out around 1300 projects in over 100 countries to preserve biodiversity. Sponk’s donation supports the WWF in its important work to protect nature.

Sponk’s art is created in a pyramid at a school in Gelsenkirchen and is used to support nature conservation projects. In a video, the artist tells his story and presents a work that is for sale. In recent years, the sprayer from Gelsenkirchen has not only focussed on living out his talent, but has also found a deeper meaning behind his art.

Since 2020, Sponk has been making his artworks available for auction in aid of nature conservation. This has given him the hope that he can really make a difference. It has meant a lot to him personally that he can not only take from nature, but also give. Through his generous fundraising campaign and the sale of the graffiti work ‘Butterfly in the Dawn’, Sponk was able to make a significant contribution to nature conservation and at the same time make his unique art accessible to a wide audience.

The impressive graffiti ‘Butterfly in the Dawn’ by Sponk was successfully sold for the sum of € 2200. All proceeds from this fundraising campaign were passed on to the WWF without any deductions to support its important nature conservation projects.

Sponk is determined to continue organising art auctions for the benefit of nature conservation. For him, the preservation of nature is more important than personal enrichment. Since 2020, he has made it his life’s goal to make a positive contribution to the environment through his art. With every auction, he wants to contribute to the realisation of nature conservation projects and the preservation of biodiversity.

The success of the fundraising campaign and the sale of the artwork ‘Butterfly in the Dawn’ have encouraged Sponk to continue on his path and use his unique art for a good cause. His passion and commitment to conservation is not only reflected in his artwork, but also in his actions by putting his artwork up for auction to protect and preserve the environment.

It was a great honour for Sponk that Christoph Krachten reported on his charity project with a detailed video on his YouTube channel Thanks for Giving:
